Leighton Howl Recruitment Director

Fascinated with the world of mechatronics and inspired by tech product development?

Do you want to be part of deploying ground-breaking technology in the world for leading blue-chip companies?

Are you a seasoned junior or an intermediate engineer who’s looking to step up in your career? Be part of our growth, right here in the heartland of New Zealand!

We are looking for a skilled hands-on Test and Maintenance Engineer to join a global tech company on the rising ranks of research and development in the world of mechatronics.

You would assist the Head of Product Development, so someone who has touched on or worked in the electromechanical space – with experience in working in a product development environment – will be highly desirable.

Verification and testing products is a major part of the fun – you will get to be involved in developing the product from start to end – from applying verification techniques to executing the design tests alongside engineers. You will manage these processes all the while ensuring that safety and quality standards are observed. If you’re someone who’s proud of their work with excellent attention to detail and record-keeping, you will be our ideal candidate!

Other duties include maintaining the local supply of robotic equipment, controlling access and deployment to the teams.

The best bit about being with a growing, global company is that we offer travel overseas for work – where Covid-19 precautions allow. In addition, full mentoring opportunities lie in this role - work alongside and learn from the best from the most experienced people in the mechatronics industry!

Last of all, we’re looking for someone who works solutions-focused, has common sense (you’d be surprised), can communicate effectively, and have a bit of a laugh because the work we do is serious enough!

Sounds good so far?

The breakdown

We’re looking for an engineer with:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in design validation testing (huge plus if this is electromechanical-based)
  • Experience in a product development environment, preferably within a structured methodology
  • Experience in HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test)

Some key responsibilities are:

  • Perform quality control within high technology electromechanical & software product development teams
  • Provide guidance and training to product development teams enabling them to manage part and subsystem verification
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers to develop and maintain well-defined reusable test procedures
  • Foster strong working relationships with colleagues and clients alike – across different cultures and countries
  • Communicate well (verbal and written) – especially in a technical environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software

Are you someone who is:

  • Disciplined and independent?
  • Adept at project management?
  • Great attention to detail and record-keeping?
  • A bit of a geek and fascinated with the world of robots?

The reward:

  • $85,000 - $87,000 per annum + Kiwi Saver
  • Carpark available
  • Full mentorship and training from an incredibly experienced team
  • Opportunity for international travel

Mandatory requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Software, Science)

In summary

This is a pivotal career opportunity for a seasoned junior engineer to join the development team at an international organisation. This person will be responsible for maintaining the local supply of robotic equipment and validate and test new product designs.
