I’m Julia and here’s a wee bit about myself...
I’m an award winning designer and illustrator with a wide a range of experience and love designing anything from books, magazine to logos.
Whether having to think my way out of a problem on a shoot (like trying to put a tent up in a studio – tents have pegs apparently), or adapting my illustrative style to suit an Art Director’s whim, I’m happy with a challenge and like to think I turn my hand to any creative medium (and budget).
I’m a stickler for getting things right, I don’t see the point in doing something unless I’m going to proud of it. After my degree, I did some freelance work for Huffer clothing, creating graphics for t-shirts, before moving onto a full-time in-house job with the art team at The New Zealand Herald.
I left for London, and spent nine years there working for Ink Publishing, the largest producer of inflight magazines worldwide. I became Design Director, managing a large group of designers and art directors, with overall responsibility for over 30 titles across the London, New York, and Singapore offices. I personally art directed a number of magazines for brands including Ryanair, Thomas Cook and Eurostar. I also created many illustrations for inclusion in magazines across Ink’s portfolio. I also have some experience in book design, branding, illustration and typography. I’d say I’m a fairly well rounded kiwi creative, used to making something out of nothing.
Please get in touch if you have a project you’d like to chat about.
I'm best known for...
Getting a sense of personality across in my work, whether it’s an invisible snowboarder, or a rat in a hat.
