I'm an Auckland based British creative with 20 years experience in art direction, copywriting, graphic design, and project strategy.
UK-born and trained (in art and design), I've described as a rare beast: an art director and creative strategist who can also write beautiful copy. I have have been working in Auckland since 2007. At first as a free freelance designer brand and identity designer, then in 2014 as Content Manager of Auckland Council’s Arts & Culture Unit were I developed skills in social media marketing and project planning and delivery planning, working on Best Design Award-winning websites for POP, Studio One, and Te Oro and working on the development of the Billy Apple smartphone app.
In the middle of 2016 I joined purpose driven brand consultancy Y brand and created a series of innovative social based campaigns. Among successes was the highly effective, fast-turnaround campaign Mexicali Fresh #freespeech campaign highlighting the brand's stance on employment of immigrants, belief in diversity, free speech, and gender equality. It was a cost-effective solution that generated physical and social engagement with people and forged heartfelt connections with the brand as well as a 2017 Best Award nomination in in the Environmental Graphics section.
The online campaign to promote the Parkable app needed to sound like it came from your best mate – and it does. And the series of elegant, pre-rolling gifs for Paymark’s Paypr app effectively targeted the 5-second attention span of Facebook readers.
So whether building a brand through art and copy or engaging audiences with disruptive social content, I aim to leave a smile on people's faces and an idea in their head.
