Bio

I've got more experience than is fashionable to have.

I've worked as an Art Director and as a Writer. I'm a better writer, but the art director part is enough to get you by. Basically, I think visually and can draw my ideas.

I've worked for a heap of top agencies over the years and one or two shitty ones across a broad range of categories. The whole time I've been paying attention and learning something from everyone in case it comes in handy down the line. Often, it does. I was creative director of McCann Erickson, Whybin\TBWA and as a freelancer, M&C Saatchi. I've worked on cars, banks, airlines, soft drinks, TV channels and radio stations. I've worked for government ministries, on computer games, in retail and telecommunications and much more.

For coming up a decade I've been freelancing as a creative and also directing TV commercials and web content. (If the person who wrote it is also directing and editing it - it's really efficient. Just saying.)

I live in Auckland with my German Shepherd, partner and two teenage kids. If there's no work I'm going surfing.

I'm best known for...

I don't know about best known, but I'm super proud of the Rotorua work. I think we created something that had just the right amount of provincial charm without being hokey. It spoke the truth and leveraged an asset that could only have come from Rotorua. Recording our version of Po Kare Ana in that Chicago Blues style with Karl Steven would have to be one of my favourite things to have been involved in ever as we put our spin on a cultural treasure. Getting in amongst Te Ao Maori is always nice and the fact that what you're doing might actually help a town - that feels real good. And it did work, really, really well.

A couple of creative people have caught my ear lately saying the most important thing is what you're doing and who you're doing it with. I couldn't agree more.

Mediums I know well

Like most writers with "12 plus years experience" there aren't many mediums I don't know well. What I do know, whatever the medium might be, is telling a story and getting a point across clearly.

Honours & awards

A couple here and there. Never won a ton of them. Gotta say, wasn't really playing that game.

Languages

Not a whole language, but I'm pretty good with Tikanga Maori.
